Fans are fed up with the Sono Bisque Doll drama

There is no doubt that “Sleep Doll Bisque wa Koi wo Suru (My dressing darling)” is one of the most popular romantic comedies of recent years, especially after its successful anime adaptation produced by the studios CloverWorks. Although, It seems like the “comedy” aspect was forgotten for several episodesand fans of the work began to despair with the way author Shinichi Fukuda is dealing with the current arc.

After a successful appearance at Comiket during the Mandate of Heaven Arc, Marin Kitagawa received a job offer to become a professional cosplayer. (although evidently the offer does not include Wakana Gojo's participation). On the other hand, Gojo inexplicably felt that he was losing Kitagawa (something difficult to explain, precisely because he still does not know about the offer they made to Kitagawa), causing a dark expression to appear on his face and he began to walk away from her.

What's more, the most recent chapters brought back Non-chan, the girl who traumatized Gojo in his childhood, telling him that his taste in dolls was "disgusting", and pushing him away. In fact, we also learn that Non-chan was always by Gojo's side throughout his childhood (specifically after his parents' death), trying to make him happy. When she discovered that the Hina dolls had achieved this for Gojo, she couldn't help but feel jealous and, following her childish impulses from that time, said those hurtful words.

In the most recent chapter, we finally got to see this cycle complete, with Non-chan showing up at Gojo's house and asking for forgiveness for what he said. This finally motivated Gojo to do what he should have done months (many episodes) ago: talk to Marin directly. And that's when the scene that made the latest chapter go viral comes in. Well, when Gojo asks Marin what cosplay she wants him to do next, she says she doesn't need him anymore.

Obviously, there's a bit of context that Gojo doesn't know but readers do, which is that Marin realized that Gojo's helping her all this time had greatly affected her hina doll-making abilities. This isn't just his dream, but Gojo hopes to prove to his grandfather that he's ready to take over the family business before he dies. This leaves Marin completely devastated, realizing that all this time she's been nothing more than "an obstacle to Gojo's dreams."

This would all be resolved if the two of them actually talked about it (and they have excuses, as they have both been acting "weird" around each other), but that hasn't happened. Fans' criticism is precisely about this fact, as they believe the author has already extracted a lot from this drama. and considering that he changed the serialization of “Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru” from biweekly to monthly, they expected the matter to have been resolved months ago.

And of course, all of this is reflected in the comments:

  • «Author! You've cooked enough. Let them get along once and for all.».
  • «Well, you start being cold to her without explaining anything. It's logical that she decides to leave and not bother you.».
  • «For a beautiful girl who works as a model, she has very little self-confidence when it comes to other women.».
  • «Just end the relationship between Gojo and Marin, please. Let them go their separate ways so they can work on themselves and then reunite after some character development.».
  • «Please don't withdraw the letter from the agency. I know it will happen sooner or later. Ugh, this drama is long and painful. Good job, author. A little too long, but that's okay.».
  • «He wants to make the best Hina doll before his grandfather passes away. And I'm sure Kitagawa will become the best Hina doll he and his grandfather have ever seen.».
  • «Finally some drama, it was so dull. Now there's drama, and the confession will make her go back to cosplay.».
  • «Yes, she'll distance herself from him and join that cosplay agency. I'm predicting it now. In the next chapter, she'll tell him she's joining that agency.».
  • «The author is definitely frustrating all the readers, what's with this pace?».
  • «Yes, seriously… Another comment above says “finally some drama,” and sure, but that’s the problem: you can’t just suddenly launch a drama when everything was fine before. It wasn’t a slow buildup over several chapters by Kitagawa thinking he was taking advantage of Gojou; it happened suddenly. This change of pace started less than 10 chapters ago, and we’re already over 100 chapters in; it should have started 50 chapters earlier.».
  • «People will always have difficulty communicating with each other, no matter what.».
  • «This manga has become darker and more depressing than the DC universe».
  • «Oh yeah, then they think about the other person and discover they're in love.».
  • «You know what's worse than this? Let this manga be published monthly. PLEASE LET ME WAKE UP NEXT MONTH NOW».
  • «I hate authors who have a great manga but promote a dramatic arc just to stay in the market. It's like you either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain.».
  • «It's taking a long time for this manga to update, but at the same time, this chapter seemed to be moving really fast, or maybe it's because the chapters are so short... I don't know».
  • «At the cosplay event, she realized that Marin might have reached a point where she couldn't reach her anymore. As if she was made for the world, and keeping it simple and small with him wouldn't work. I honestly don't like this development. This angel arc was one of the best in the entire series. The way the author portrayed each scene was pure art, but the drama is poorly written so far.».
  • «“This is a cosplay manga” keeps giving us stupid, annoying drama that no one wanted.».
  • «The chapters are getting shorter. I don't know if the first chapter is over 40 pages and the second is 28 pages, but after that it was 19-20 pages at first, but the last chapters were 16-17 pages. That's an average of three fewer pages per chapter and the equivalent of two fewer chapters per year. And considering it's a monthly publication, that's quite a lot.».
  • «I'm still upset that the author created a problem out of nothing that no one thought was a problem just because».
  • «The author tries to make the manga last longer. The reappearance of the cruel childhood friend is a cliché.».
  • «She decided for his own good, but it will only make things worse. He'll think he's no longer needed because, not only will she not want him to make her suits, but he'll also disengage from the relationship.».
  • «I hope they at least talk. Continuing this shitty drama, leaving them both in the dark, will suck. Please don't let this become cliché!».
