Along with this, it also focused on the return of a powerful character that fans have come to love over the years. While not the best chapter of this arc, it was certainly a solid addition and sets up a very exciting battle near the series' conclusion.
Sukuna releases divine flame
Sukuna's Divine Flame wreaked havoc on the battlefield
JJK Chapter 259 finally saw Sukuna unleash the Divine Flame. This is something fans had been waiting for in this chapter, and it was simply because he had begun preparing for this attack in the previous chapter. Immediately after launching his attacks against the sorcerers, Sukuna opened the door to the Divine Flame in an attempt to get rid of them. In the midst of all this, fans finally got an explanation of how Sukuna's Divine Flame works. According to the author, to truly access the Divine Flame, Sukuna must first go through the Cleave and Dismantle process. Only after preparing the ingredients with Cleave and Dismantle can he access the culinary flame, which is the Divine Flame. The author also explains that the Divine Flame, while very powerful, lacks speed and range.
This was a major problem for Sukuna, and because of it, he made a binding vow, which ensured that this attack would overcome these weaknesses. However, on the other hand, he could no longer use it on a wide range of targets outside his domain. Essentially, Sukuna's Divine Flame was restricted to a large area only within his domain, which is what he did in this chapter. Outside of his domain, he wouldn't be able to utilize the Divine Flame on multiple targets. That said, it worked quite well for Sukuna. This would mean that within his domain, Sukuna could essentially reduce all lifeforms to ash after first destroying them with his Malevolent Shrine.
In JJK Chapter 259, Sukuna unleashed the power of these magnificent flames, and fans were able to see massive explosions occurring within Sukuna's domain, eventually leading to even the earth being completely burned. Sukuna's firepower was absolutely magnificent, likely on par with Gojo's Hollow Purple. Speaking of Gojo, the author also stated that Sukuna couldn't have used the Divine Flame against Gojo. This was simply because Sukuna had to constantly change the laws of his domain during his fight against Gojo, and the numerous binding vows he had to perform during that fight meant that this simply wasn't possible for him.
Furthermore, without bypassing Infinity, it would have been impossible for Sukuna to actually hit Gojo with the Divine Flame, which was especially highlighted in this chapter as this attack was blocked by an individual.
Choso sacrifices himself for Yuji
Choso protected his brother with his last ounce of energy
As soon as Sukuna unleashed his Divine Flame, fans knew that Yuji absolutely could not be left to die. That's precisely why fans knew that some sorcerers would sacrifice themselves for the protagonist, and that's exactly what happened. Of course, the only one willing to do so was Choso. He rushed to Yuji's aid in this chapter and created a blood-like domain around his younger brother. Shielding his brother with his body, Choso was essentially burned and completely killed in a single instant. This was a heartbreaking moment for fans, but it was also one they saw coming. There was absolutely no other way for Yuji to survive, yet with Choso's barrier, he was able to emerge from this attack without even a single burn.

Meanwhile, Choso was happy to sacrifice himself for Yuji, and the two even had a heartfelt conversation. Choso told Yuji he was sorry for being a bad older brother; however, Yuji, being the kind man he is, reminded him that he was there for him in his darkest moments, and that alone is more than enough. Choso then moved on to the afterlife, where he would likely be reunited with his brothers, Eso and Kechizu. He also mentioned that he would have to apologize to Yuki as well, a nod to the relationship they fostered earlier in the arc. He also entrusted the rest to Yuji, and from now on, it's up to him to stop the greatest evil of all, Ryomen Sukuna.
Everyone arrives on the battlefield
Aoi Todo finally enters the battle in JJK
JJK Chapter 259 saw Yuji shaken to his core. As soon as he left Choso's domain, he knew his brother was no more. However, his greatest fear was that everyone around him had also died. Just as he was about to fall to his knees and collapse, a mysterious individual appeared out of nowhere, trying to help Yuji. This was none other than Aoi Toto, another individual who calls Yuji her brother. Fans had been waiting for Todo's return for some time, and finally, the author fulfilled that goal.
Todo mentioned that he saved everyone with his Boogie Woogie, thanks to a collaboration with Mei Mei, and that they're likely safe now. However, he mentioned that Choso and Yuji were at the epicenter of the domain, so they were out of its reach, and Choso ended up dying. Regardless, his goal here is to help Yuji defeat Sukuna, and Choso has now officially joined the battle for good. It will be incredibly exciting to see how this battle unfolds from here on out, and thanks to Toto, Yuji has strengthened his resolve once again. What's even more exciting is the fact that Sukuna hasn't been able to use his cursed technique for a while due to the use of the powerful domain moments ago, and now, the ball is in the court of these two powerful sorcerers. From here on out, Sukuna will likely take a beating, and it will be interesting to see if the battle ends here for him or not.
Thankfully, JJK doesn't seem to be on break and it will be interesting to see how Todo has changed next week as he tries to take on the strongest sorcerer in history, with Yuji Itadori by his side.
Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read from Viz Media. The series can be read officially and for free by fans in Shonen Jump and Manga Plus application. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 260, is set for May 19, 2024.
